Self-mailer
|
Creative Brief
|
Create an artistic self-mailer to advertise an open house at Harrisburg Area Community College. The target audience are future students from about ages eighteen to twenty-five who would like to start with HACC’s art program. Parents are also important because in most cases they are the one who are helping the student pay for tuition.
The printed design and verbiage should grab the audience’s attention long enough for them to pick read the advertisement. The catch phrase or verbiage also align with the design. |
Creative
Concept |
Design your Destiny displays the hawk mascot with jewelry pliers and a camera lens eye. Other art supplies spill out of the hawk’s beak to represent other areas in the art program such as 2-Dimensional Design, sculpture and computer art.
For each art supply that was created I used the correct medium. I used acrylic paint to make the paintbrush and I cut out a wood pattern to make a wooden sculpting tool. Because I used photos for objects and texture along with drawing on the Wacom and other mediums my artwork would be a computer version of mixed media. Conceptually my design is abstract because I combined objects to make new ones. I tried to push my abilities and use knowledge from previous classes. |

Magazine Cover and Layout
|
For Self Expression I chose HOW magazine. All the correct cover graphics such as the size of the logo, sub heading, issue, price of the magazine and bar code should be recognizable as HOW magazine. My verbiage is One Bite at a Time in Design. How do you eat an elephant? Start with one bite at a time.
I did a watercolor of a person sitting at a table with a fork and knife in each hand. The graphic designer wears a red handkerchief as a bib with an elephant before him. The massive creature on the cover represents the overwhelming projects to do. The clouds are shaped like elephants because once you eat your elephant there are always more work to come. |

Book Cover and Book Signing Poster
|
For project three we were to make an 18.25” X 8.75” book jacket and 10.5” x 16.5” poster design that relates to each other with out being too similar. These designs are meant to stand out from the other displayed books on a library table. The cover graphic is to give a hint of the novel and not give away character faces or ruin the story line. The front cover sells the story and concept.
My cover design is clean, simple, and too the point. I did not want my design to be too obvious or what you would expect from a circus. There a reason for every part of my design and fulfills the required contents for the project. There is a small call to action on the cover flap about looking online for more of Sara Gruen’s work. |
Mood Board
project 4Trip Hop is a music genre that I am not familiar with, so I have no emotion attachment. The design stands out from other record covers and captures the mood and feeling of the music.
Trip Hop Originated in the UK, this genre was born from British DJ's taking American Hip Hop to a new level. Like all music, Trip Hop has many emotions, but is generally has a mellow, sad tint to life sound. During this time graffiti was huge, so I gave the title that grungy feel. The placement of the title is also practical for DJ's to flip through and easily find it. This electric sound is mixed with old samples and rarely contains rap. Lips on the cover represent the sensual layers of female voices found in Trip Hop. |

Chuckar The title is inspired by HACC's mascot, the hawk. An onamonapia of the bird's voice to announce monthly news about the college. |
